Our little pincushion

Yesterday's doctor visit went very well. The doctor thought that both of the boys are doing really well. Dima is in the 3 percentile for his height (meaning 3% of children his age are smaller than him), and I didn't hear where he was on weight but I'm sure it's right around there if not lower. He had to get eight shots. And no, he didn't cry. This is one of the issues with neglect. Children who have been neglected or have attachment disorders often have a very high pain tolerance, because they've learned that crying does not bring comfort or relief. In other words, when they were little and would cry, no one would come to ease their pain and comfort them. He did flinch on the shot in his thigh which was the 8th one. He did great overall and we'll keep working on teaching him to come to us for comfort. It will take some time. :)

Here's a picture of Dima the pincushion:

Zhenya's visit is this afternoon. He got to watch Dima yesterday, so we'll see how he does with the shots. :)

Wow - 8!! That's worse than William's 6 he got in December at his first doctor visit. But he is going back for Round 2 today, which will be at least 2 shots.

Oh, and glad to read about the hugs, too! I have to say that some of the best moments of my evenings are when William comes up unprompted and throws his arms around me.

They will learn that they do not have to be brave and that you guys will be there for just about everything. I mean honestly there will be times when we as parents can't be there immediately.

I've been a lurker for a bit now but I just wanted to tell you that I think you guys are doing an awesome job with your boys. You are very observant, loving, and wise parents. :) Many blessings on your journey.

Also, I just have to say that my bio boys were older for their first shots too because we choose to delay vacs till age 2. My firstborn screamed. He actually has a high pain tolerance (once waled around on a broken foot for 24hrs) but didn't like being held down. :) Thomas, on the other hand, was hilarious. (We opted to only do 2 shots per visit)After they had given him the 2 shots he screamed; and when we told him it was over he stopped, mid-scream, sat up, smiled at the nurse, and said "thank-you". It was SO FUNNY!!!
