My amazing husband

I haven't posted about our job situations because it's really not relevant to the blog, but Mark and I managed to arrange things so that one of us is home with the kids until they start school (at which point Emily will start preschool and the three big kids will be in school).

Since being home with 4 children ages 7 and under for the past couple of weeks, Mark has:

Finished the downstairs bathroom (way more involved than it sounds)
Made a square foot garden (4x4) for me
Completed nearly a month's worth of meals from Once-a-month Cooking

He's been staying really busy at home and I know the kids are enjoying their time with him. Zhenya's been helping him cook and Emily likes to follow him around and close everything (cupboards, drawers, the dishwasher). :)

I finally got things planted in my new garden (way late, I know!) so we'll see if anything grows. I planted one tomato plant, one red pepper, carrots, broccoli, sweet basil, and cilantro. The herbs are already doing really well so at least those will be useful. The tomatoes may not have a chance to ripen before our first frost--it will just depend on when our first frost is. So far I really like the square foot garden since I can reach everything and everything is separated out nicely.

Wow, that is a lot of work! We just put in a small garden this week, too, but we probably have a while longer before a frost, if we get one. We went with tomatoes and zucchini. With as much z-bread as the boys have been going through lately, it will save us a lot of money! Hope yours gets going strong before it's too cold.

You might be pleasantly surprised. We haven't had an unbearably hot Summer this year, so you might get some good growing weather in August. Maybe September will be nice too (my sister will be visiting, so we're hoping for good weather then)

Way to go Mark! If it does look like a frost is coming and the tomatoes aren't ripe, you can always pick them and bring them in to ripen. I think wrap them in newspaper or in a brown paper bag, but you might want to double check that.

I just have a question...When and how do the Olmsteds...I don't know...RELAX?? :)- You guys are so amazingly industrious. Go you and Mark! (But don't you ever get weary?!)

There are a few things that are late summer crops, like lettuces and such that you can even do in pots. Check out bonnieplants.com for more info. I really likes their site for help with my garden. Emelia is loving picking cherry tomatoes and I made the best tomato basil mozzarella salad this week.

T...um, yes. :) But there's lots of energy in our house. I think the kids help pass it around. ;)
